Bridport Market......in the top ten in the country....Please go online and vote for Bridport!

Bridport is named as one of the top ten Market Town by the BBC Countryfile magazine. go online and Vote for Bridport.http://www.countryfile.com/awardsvote

The market town of Bridport is alive and well, famous for its netting and rope making and is well worth a visit, especially on Market days, Wednesdays and Saturdays; make it a shopping trip!

Browse the bric-a-brac stalls and be surprised with the eclectic mix at the Vintage Market situated within the historic art and antiques quarter, here's always a bargain to be had!

We're a foodie's paradise too, you'll be spoilt for choice. Come and visit the monthly Farmers Market where you can sample our local produce and you might just get to bump into Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall one of our local celebrity chefs from nearby River Cottage.

Bridport has an abundance of excellent restaurants, lively bistros, tasty coffee shops and pubs to welcome you - often live music in Bucky Do Square, plus art and entertainment throughout the year at the Bridport Arts Centre and the quirky, nostalgic Electric Palace.

Highway Farm....reveiwed

Dear Pauline and John,

Gillian, Belinda and Jack and I would like you to know that we enjoyed our stay with you very much. Your accommodation surpassed our expectations by some measure and what made our short break special was the way you and John entered into the spirit of our banter. We never like to take things serious and your sense of humour was a perfect compliment to ours.

I enjoyed the views from our bedroom window so much I took several photos just after sunrise one morning. I have attached a photo or two which I hope you will like.

Many, many thanks once again for a wonderful holiday,

Yours Sincerely, Alan (Chris!), Gillian, Belinda and Jack

It's always lovely to receive a thank you. Thanks Chris, whoops I mean Alan!

Sometimes I get the name wrong all week, and some people just don't look like their name!
It's not easy remember everyone....but we do try, very hard, and we love to see people back.

Nice return visit from Grace and Cheuk, and  their family visitors from Hong Kong.
Here to experience the foodie delights of West Dorset, The Riverside and The West Bay, and a visit to Durdle Door and our local Agricultural Show.

Grace bought plants which is always a nice way to remember a place or a person.

Happy Birthday to Tony, 80 years young today. He's been a regular visitor and has come back to Highway Farm to celebrate and brought all the family for a long weekend.
It's a very special gathering for a very special gentleman.

The sun shone for Charity Garden Party at Highway Farm with the Beaminster Young Farmers

Raising money for Prostate Cancer UK and Club funds.

A Charity Garden Party at Highway Farm on Sunday 11th August, joint effort with the Beaminster Young  Farmers.............and the sun shone!

Near perfect day for a BBQ in the garden. Relaxed, friendly, fun, with all ages in attendance; 8 months to 88!

We raised £652 for Prostate Cancer and Beaminster YFC, brilliant!

Everyone left after lunch to follow John and Lin on a choice of a short guided walk, or longer walk behind Colmers and beyond.  Both stunning routes with amazingly clear views, all came back tired after tackling our hills, especially the young ones!

Back for a well earned tea, kindly donated by Clipper Teas, Beaminster, and a table loaded with home-made yummy cakes.

Big thank you to all who supported our efforts and to the helpers, those who donated raffle prizes and the lovely ladies who made the delicious cakes.

It was a very enjoyable and fun afternoon. Cheers P. x

Would you like to make a Walking Stick? New date for Workshop 31st August

We invite you to a Workshop Day at Highway Farm making traditional walking sticks.

It's not just for the men either, although it does make a good present to send them off to make their own walking stick and then go hiking from here!

On a workshop with Peter I made 2 walking sticks, one a blackberry thumb stick, one with a horn handle and a short one for my grandson Dan.  I was very pleased with my walking sticks and use them daily, although one at a time, it helps me up the surrounding hills!

I have just added a new date, Saturday 31st August, with tutor Peter Snelson.  He's a woodman who makes his living from the woods, building dry stone-walling, fencing and countryside service and he visits the Shows in the summer selling a lovely assortment of interesting wooden items and is well known for his walking sticks.

Here are the details and a photo, and if you are interested we could change the times 9.30 - 1.30pm, or an afternoon session?

Sat 31st  Aug                 Walking sticks, come and make your own ~ Peter Snelson.
The selection of a suitable ‘shank’, basic preparation and straightening, finishing techniques and instruction on how to make a two-piece stick.
You should be able to complete one if not two sticks during the day workshop.
£45 materials/tools included.
